The 2021 annual working meeting of ASME A17 China Working Group was held online on November 30. Shen Gongtian, chairman of A17 China Working Group and vice president of CSEI, chaired the meeting and delivered a speech. Ms. Fu Ying, who is from ASME’s Beijing Representative Office, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Ms. Geraldine Burdeshaw, Secretary of ASME A17 Committee, introduced the latest progress of A17 elevator standards. The Secretary-General of the Working Group made the report of the first session of ASME A17 Committee.  The voting and amending status of the A17 elevator standards in the past year was communicated during the meeting. The experts discussed the elevator safety factors, remote interaction, flood detection, field test and diagnosis function; based on the cases of elevator accidents in recent years, they analyzed the failure causes of elevator main engine brakes, and put forward some suggestions for improving the requirements related to upward over speed protection (ACOP), accidental movement protection (UCMP) and brake function of elevator main engine in ASME A17.1.

Mr. Shen Gongtian summed up the meeting and affirmed the work of the first session of the working group in the past three years. At the same time, he put forward expectations and requirements that the new working group shall continue to do the research on A17 standard development & amendment and technical issues of the industry focus, strengthen the cooperation and exchange with ASME in elevator standards, give full play to the role of the working group, vote on proposals as required and hold regular online or offline meetings depending on the situation, contribute to the improvement of elevator regulations & standards and the quality and safety level.
