Recently, at a meeting of the National Natural Science Foundation of China , the research project “Magnetic Nondestructive Testing Method for Fatigue State of Ferromagnetic Metal Materials” undertaken by Vice President of CSEI Shen Gongtian was awarded “Excellent Project”.

The project developed a technology based on magnetic parameters (such as magnetic Barkhausen noise and hysteresis loop characteristics) to detect and evaluate the fatigue degree of ferromagnetic materials. This is the first time in China to develop a composite sensor and instrument system with magnetic Barkhausen noise and magnetic parameter measurement function, and establish the relationship between the damage degree of fatigue process and magnetic parameters of ferromagnetic metal components.

The related research results provide a new means to solve the problem of non-destructive testing of micro-damage in the early stage of fatigue of in-service equipment, and lay a foundation for the fatigue state detection, failure risk assessment and fatigue residual life prediction at any stage of fatigue life cycle.
