3 Projects of CSEI Approved by 2016 National Natural Science Foundation of China

The National Natural Science Foundation Committee announced the review result of 2016 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) on August 17, 2016. CSEI’s 3 projects were approved and gained fund 980,000RMB. 

The three projects are “Austenitic Stainless Steel Self-magnetization Mechanism and Application Foundation under the Action of Deformation and Stress Concentration”, “Evaluation Method Research on Material Low Stress Creep Property Based on Cantilever Small Specimens” and “Key Technology Research on Electromagnetic Ultrasonic Online Detection on the Crack of High Temperature Pressure Equipment”.

Beginning with the self-magnetization filed phenomenon formed on austenitic stainless steel material surface after martensite transformation induced by deformation, the project “Austenitic Stainless Steel Self-Magnetization Mechanism and Application Foundation under the Action of Deformation and Stress Concentration” explores the essential rules and characteristics of austenitic stainless steel magnetization under the action of deformation and stress concentration, reveals the magnetization mechanism of austenitic stainless steel under multi-factor influence, and offers important theoretical basis for the establishment of self-magnetization anti-corrosion evaluation method. 

Considering the problem of material performance degradation during high temperature and long time service, based on cantilever small specimen creep testing method, the project “Evaluation Method Research on Material Low Stress Creep Property Based on Cantilever Small Specimens” carries out low stress long time creep property evaluation method research, solves the scientific problems of small specimen data validity discrimination, deformation measurement, data relavance, etc., and promotes the development for small specimen creep testing method.

The project “Key Technology Research on Electromagnetic Ultrasonic Online Detection on the Crack of High Temperature Pressure Equipment” studies the reflect, transmission, diffraction, scattering and modal transfer characteristics as surface wave, oblique incidence ultrasonic interacting with crack, explores the crack quantitative determination method according to interaction characteristic, develops high temperature electromagnetic ultrasonic sensor, set up crack quantitative determination method for inner and outer surface of in-service high temperature equipment, and provides supporting technology for health status and safety evaluation of high temperature equipment.    

NSFC faces the whole country and is a significant constituent part of the state innovation system, it mainly funds natural science fundamental research and part of application research, and is operated and managed by the National Natural Science Foundation Committee. NSFC includes national outstanding youth science fund projects, general projects and youth science foundation projects, etc.. CSEI applied for 5 NSFC projects totally this year, of which one general project, approved; four youth science foundation projects, two approved.
